SPSS training taught on your data, in your discipline
Generic SPSS courses teach menus. We teach the decisions — which test your design needs, how to check whether it is valid, and how to report it — using examples from your own field and, where possible, your own dataset.
- Taught on your own dataset
- Syntax skills, not just menus
- Exercises from your discipline
- Materials and recording to keep
SPSS training covers data preparation and recoding, choosing the correct statistical test for a research design, testing and interpreting assumptions, writing reusable syntax so analyses can be reproduced, and reporting results to APA convention.
What is included
What you get with spss training
Data preparation
Importing, coding, recoding, handling missing values and building the variables your analysis actually needs.
Choosing the right test
A decision framework you can apply to the next project, rather than a list of procedures to memorise.
Assumptions and what to do when they fail
Testing them, reading them, and knowing the alternative when the assumption does not hold.
Syntax and reproducibility
Writing and saving syntax so your analysis can be rerun, checked and corrected without starting again.
Reporting to APA
Turning output into tables and sentences that meet journal and university requirements.
Support afterwards
Questions once you are working alone are included in the price.
Who it is for
Two kinds of client, one standard of work
- A quantitative project and no formal stats training
- Reliance on a supervisor who is not always available
- Needing to run the analysis yourself for a viva
- Wanting to stop guessing at test selection
- Bringing a team to a shared standard
- Staff inheriting datasets they did not build
- Reducing dependence on one person who knows SPSS
- Reproducible workflows for audit or funder scrutiny
What is taught
The decision framework you take away
The aim is not to memorise procedures. It is to be able to answer four questions about any new dataset, which is what actually transfers between projects.
Everything else — menus, dialog boxes, where a particular option lives — is findable. The decision framework is the part people cannot look up, and the part supervisors are actually testing.
Before you book
Format and practical arrangements
If your work is heading towards publication or reproducibility, R is the better long-term investment and we will say so — even though SPSS training is the easier sell.
How it works
Three steps, entirely in writing
Tell us the project
Send the dataset or describe what your team is working on, and say honestly where your skills are now.
Approve a fixed quote
Naming the trainer, the session structure and the dates. Nothing is booked until you agree it.
Train, then keep the materials
Slides, exercise files, syntax and a recording — plus follow-up questions once you are working alone.
Proof
This work, on real projects
Clients are not named and no identifying detail is published, so what is described is the statistical problem — which is the part that shows whether a consultancy knows what it is doing.
Exploratory Factor Analysis and Ordinal Regression on a National Survey
Reducing 75 overlapping questionnaire items to interpretable factors, then modelling an ordinal outcome correctly.
Education · Multilevel modellingMultilevel Modelling of Student Performance Across Twenty Departments
Accounting for students clustered within courses and departments, where ignoring the hierarchy would have manufactured significance.

Common questions
Answers before you ask
Do I need to know any statistics already?
No. We start from where you are — tell us honestly when you book and the session is pitched accordingly.
Can you use R or Stata instead?
Yes. The same training runs in R and Stata, and we will recommend R if your work is heading towards reproducibility or publication.
Can we train on our own data?
Yes, and it is far more effective. Send the dataset in advance and the exercises are built from it.
How long is a session?
Most people get furthest with two or three half-days rather than one long day. We will suggest a structure with the quote.
Do you provide materials?
Yes — slides, exercise files, worked syntax and a recording of the session, all yours to keep.
