How it works

How it works

Four steps, entirely in writing. You approve a fixed price before anything starts, you are told which statistician is doing the work, and you receive the analysis with the code, the assumption checks and a plain-English explanation.

How does ResearchBench work?

You send your dataset or describe the project by email. A statistician replies within one working day with a fixed price, the deliverables and a deadline. Nothing begins until you approve that quote. The analysis is then delivered by email with annotated output, the reusable code, and an explanation of what the results mean.

The process

The four steps

You send it data or a description We quote 1 working day You approve nothing starts before We deliver by email No account · no call required · fixed price agreed at step 3
The fixed price is agreed at step three. Nothing begins before you approve it.

1. Send what you have

Attach the dataset, or simply describe the project. There is no account to create and no form of required fields to complete — the quote form asks five questions because that is what we need in order to price the work accurately.

If your data is sensitive, say so and we will sign a data processing agreement or NDA before you send anything. For most projects a pseudonymised extract is sufficient, and we will ask for that in preference to identifiable data.

2. We read it and quote

Usually within one working day. The quote names the statistician assigned, lists the deliverables, states the deadline, and gives a fixed price. Where the work depends on the state of the data — cleaning, in particular — we look at the file before quoting rather than guessing, and there is no charge for that assessment.

If anything in your brief is unclear we ask one question rather than five. If the project is not something we should take on, we say so.

3. You approve, or you do not

Nothing starts until you accept the quote. There is no obligation and no charge for having received one. Individuals can pay online; organisations pay by invoice against a purchase order with 30-day terms.

4. We deliver

The analysis, with annotated output
The syntax, script or code that produced it, so the work can be rerun and checked
Assumption checks, run and reported
Tables formatted to APA or your journal or department’s convention
A plain-English explanation of what the result means
Answers to follow-up questions, included in the price

The written record

Why everything runs by email

Delivery by email is a deliberate choice, not a limitation. It produces a written record of what was asked, what was delivered, and what was said about it — which matters when a supervisor queries a method months later, when a funder asks how a figure was produced, or when an examiner asks what support you received.

You can call us on +44 141 536 0269 whenever you prefer to talk something through. Nothing is decided on a call that is not confirmed in writing afterwards.

Common questions

Answers before you ask

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no account, no login and no portal. Everything happens by email.

Do I have to get on a call?

No. If you would rather talk it through, call +44 141 536 0269 — but it is never required, and anything discussed is confirmed in writing afterwards.

How do I pay?

Individuals pay online once the quote is approved. Organisations pay by invoice with a purchase order and 30-day terms.

What if I need changes after delivery?

Reasonable revisions to clarify or correct what was delivered are included. A substantial change of scope is quoted separately before any work is done on it.

Can you work to a tight deadline?

Sometimes. Tell us the deadline when you enquire and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable rather than accepting and missing it.
